Terms & conditions
How quotes, deposits, guest numbers, cancellations and the evening itself work.
Example text for the Placecard template, written for a fictional private chef. Have it reviewed by a lawyer and adapt it to your business before you publish.
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
These terms apply to every dinner at home, chef’s table and chalet or villa week (“the service”) provided by Inès Morel Cuisine SASU, 12 rue de l’Exemple, 06600 Antibes, France, registered under number 000 000 000 (“Inès Morel”, “we”), to the person who books it (“you”). They also apply to the use of this website. The written quote you accept and these terms together form the contract. If the quote and these terms disagree, the quote wins.
2. Enquiries, quotes and booking
Sending the enquiry form does not book a date. After a call, we send a written menu and a quote that lists every cost line by line: cooking, staff by name and hours, groceries (included or at cost), travel, hire of tableware, wine if you ask us to source it. The date is held for 5 days. It is booked when you accept the quote in writing and the deposit is received.
3. Prices and payment
Prices on the site are “from” prices per guest, including French VAT where it applies, before wine and travel. The price you pay is the one on your accepted quote.
Dinners and chef’s tables: a deposit of 30 % within 5 days of the quote; the balance 7 days before the dinner.
Chalet and villa weeks: 40 % to book; the balance 21 days before arrival. Groceries and wine bought at cost are invoiced at the end of the stay with the receipts.
Payment is by bank transfer, to the details on the quote; nothing is paid on this website. Late payment incurs the penalties and the €40 fixed recovery fee set by French commercial law for business clients.
4. Guest numbers, menu and allergies
You may change the menu up to 7 days before the dinner. Guest numbers can go down by up to 2 until 7 days before; after that, we invoice the number confirmed at that date. The minimum invoiced for a dinner or a chef’s table is 6 guests. You must tell us, in writing, about every allergy, intolerance and medical diet of every guest. We adapt the menu and take the precautions described in our FAQ; we cannot guarantee the absence of traces of an allergen in a kitchen we don’t control, and we will tell you before the dinner if a request can’t be met safely.
5. Your kitchen and the house
You provide access to the house at the agreed time, a working oven, hob and fridge, running water, and plates, glasses and cutlery for your guests unless we hire them. You tell us about anything unusual (no lift, an induction hob that needs a code, a chalet reachable only by snowcat). We leave the kitchen clean and put away. We are insured for civil liability when cooking in private homes; damage caused by normal use of your equipment, or by equipment that was faulty before we arrived, is not our responsibility.
6. Cancellation and changes of date
By you, more than 21 days before: the deposit is refunded, minus €90 for the menu work.
By you, between 21 and 8 days before: the deposit is kept, or moved once to another date within 6 months, subject to availability.
By you, 7 days or less before: the full amount is due, because groceries and staff are committed. We give you what can be frozen or kept.
By us: if we have to cancel for illness, accident or any other reason, every amount you’ve paid is refunded within 5 days, and we try to suggest another chef. We are not liable for other costs you may have incurred.
Force majeure (road closures, avalanche risk, strikes, extreme weather): either party may postpone without penalty; amounts paid are kept as credit for 12 months or refunded, minus groceries already bought.
If you are a consumer booking at a distance, the 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply to catering services for a specific date (French Consumer Code, article L221-28).
7. Staff and conduct
From 12 guests we bring the staff listed on the quote. They work under our responsibility. We may stop service if a guest’s behaviour puts the staff’s safety at risk; the full amount remains due. Alcohol is served responsibly, and not to anyone under 18.
8. Photos and host notes
We may photograph dishes and the kitchen during the service for our records. We publish photos of your home, your guests or your words on this site only with your separate written consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
9. Liability
Our liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount of the accepted quote, except in cases of death or personal injury caused by our negligence, gross negligence or wilful misconduct, where no limit applies. We are not liable for indirect losses.
10. Complaints, law and disputes
Tell us about any problem at hello@inesmorel.example within 7 days of the service; we reply within 10 working days. These terms are governed by French law. If you are a consumer, you may use a consumer mediator free of charge (details given on request and on the quote) before going to court. Otherwise, disputes go to the courts of Grasse, France, unless the law gives you the right to another court.
